radiator install

Postby pdcobra » Tue Feb 02, 2010 4:55 pm

I'm having some issues installing the radiator. I went by Brian's shop and looked over his green monster a couple of weeks ago when he was changing out the motor to see how things are installed. I'm at the point of installing the radiator and have the bottom brackets mounted on the radiator. My issue is I'm not seeing how this thing can fit without the hood hitting the top of the radiator cap or the bottom outlet hitting the rack and pinion. I have tried several positions and still seem to have the same problem. Am i doing something wrong? I looked at some of the pictures in the forum and it seems the radiator leans pretty far back towards the engine. I tried that but the bottom outlet will hit the rack and pinion and wont allow it to lean over anymore. Do i need to lift the bottom brackets higher to clear the rack so i can lean if forward more? Brian told me i probably need to cut the bottom but i just dot see how that would work?

Thanks, Steve

That's it Steve , I was stubborn & wanted to use a different fan system ( shroud & wiring , relays, t-stat all in one package) & I went from one system of mounting to a newer version but it is sounding like they changed again? But Yes Sir I had to raise mine in order to tilt enough to clear cap & not just any cap but the slimest one possible !!!! Bunches of trial fit & errors!

I have the older radiator and brackets. I had to shim the bottom of the radiator up aboout an inch to get the clearance I needed on the rack. The resultant angle is not extreme.

I mounted my bottom brackets although had to bend them slightly and after the body was on I secured the top of the radiator, with slight bends on the upper brackets in the vice. Although it seems like a lot it's really easy, just see what works for you and ajust as you see fit. There really is no right or wrong
