Operation Comfort LS-427 Build Update

Postby Operation Comfort » Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:34 pm

Hay Guys,

Just wanted to update everyone on the progress of the LS-427 build. We have installed the front suspension, shocks and steering rack.
Does anyone know what tie-rod ends we need to use??? We can't find any in the inventory and are not sure what kind to buy. The front brakes look great.
We also have painted and installed the rear-end and rear control arms as well as the rear shocks. The gas tank and straps are in position as well. We are now trying to tackle the great challenge of fuel and brake lines.
Like I said before please send us any tech-tips you think we might need better to know them before not after, know what I mean. Thank you to Randy from Lakeway Cobra the tech sheets you sent have a lot of useful information. We were about to use JB Weld to install the lower fuel line adapter until we read your notes. Thanks for the time saver!!!!!!

Guy's,

I called Brian, the reason you could not find them is the normally come with the steering rack, and as we had it donated we "missed' the fact that it was without tie rod ends.

They are standard Ford ends, Lone Stars supplier is International Wholesale (402-564-3422) with a part number of IW-4047T for just under $10 bucks each. They may sell to you, but truth is they are standard parts for Mustang manual or power racks, if you go to the parts store I always use 1994 Mustang GT as an example.

You certainly can buy direct from International Wholesale. As a matter of fact, I bought about 6 of these tie rod ends until I found two that would take grease. Now that I have a pair that works, I'm very happy with them. I searched all over for the tie rod ends locally(parts shops, Ford dealerships, mechanics), and no one could match the tie rod end I had in my hand. That's how I ended up at IW. Yeah, these babies are cheap, but they are good people at IW and stand behind what they sell.

There is a tab below the reply screen that says "upload attachment". Click on it, and browse till you find the file you want. Select it, then select submit.

Note that the photos cannot be over 1 meg. You can size them down if you need to with a variety of programs available for free on the internet.

Rob,

I have talked wtih Brian and getting a link for the center caps needed on the rims. I understand the Cobra Brakes onteh kit will not allow teh center caps that came with the wheels....but we know the fix...on it's way.

I understand sitting the body on the frame is not to far away!

Rob - Commet form the donator of the wheels -

Here you go. THese are superb and the company owner will answer the phone--terrific customer service. Be sure that you are talking about 17" FR500 rims.

Yes, center caps are a problem with the Cobra brake setup. But it is worth the trouble. Just as a reminder, tho I have said it before, the big front brakes require a 1" bore master cylinder.

Here are some updated pictures of the LS427 Operation Comfort Build. Its recently been painted and now they are putting the pieces back on the body. As you can see it looks absolutely beautiful! I love their color choice.

O.P.,
Looks great guys! Chime in and give us the details, paint color etc.. Janis w/O.C. said the pics just doesn't do the paint justice. If that's the case I cant wait to see it in person!!!

Great Job Everyone!! :D

Operation Comfort Update

Words that just posted up on Houston Cobra Club site.

Update on Operation Comfort - Lone Star Classics build.

The car was completed and the base coat color sprayed.

Unfortunately just this past week there was an incident while prepping the car
for stripes and the car suffered front end body damage.

The most important fact is no one got hurt.

The individuals involved feel bad as we all can imagine, so we do not want to
add to their feelings. It was an accident (which many of us know happen!) and
as said above, fortunately no one was hurt.

With the damage extent (Front clip) and considering this will be an auctioned
car the decision is to replace the full body.

We have worked with Brian at Lone Star to get another body (at cost) and are
putting together a trip to deliver and support the initial body swap (early
September we expect). More to come on that as we get the date and details
planned.

The cost of all the parts is expected to be around $4K, and then the prep/paint
process will have to be completed again.

With the above in mind, and the fact that limited progress on a 2010 kit
donation has been made, we are suggesting that HCC's 2010 Operation Comfort
drive should be towards the completion of the Lone Star Classics 427.

Specifically working to donate towards the repair parts and any incurred cost of
painting.

Kelly and Tony are working a 2nd annual "Feel Good Twice" event that is
tentatively planned for September 18th however there are many details to be
worked out.

We will update as things are known………Bill and Tony
