4 sale- 428 FE 400 HP at wheels.

Postby 427HISS » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:04 am

I'm having Keith Craft building me a aluminum 482 side oiler with some where around 625-650 HP/TQ , and this build will be in two magazines, so I'm selling my 428 FE with 400 HP at the wheels. I have the build spec sheet and chassis dyno information. It will be sold as a long block (+) minus, the MSD box, distributor & wires.

Stock stroke-.060 over bore.
Hot Tank Cleaned
Shot Peened
Honed & Plate Honed
Magnafluxed
Sonic Tested

Forged Pistons. 10:3:1
Stock Rods & Crank (machined)
Balanced Rotating Assembly with Flywheel.
Vic Jr. FE Intake

I had Comp Cams grind me a solid flat tappet cam. I have the cam card.
252/260 @ 0.50
600 lift.
110 degree of lobe seperation. Vey lumpy and a great sounding motor. Click on the you tube link below to hear it.

The heads are iron and were ported to the max. I'll see if I can find the flow bench numbers. The valve train are HS rollers that are shaft mounted with all new end stands. I rebuilt the engine in 2004. It is very strong running. I have new stainless pipes & muffler and I'm planning on putting the motor back on the dyno to see if my old one's were restrictive so, the HP/TQ numbers may go up, I'll see.

I sanded the block smooth and painted it my body color. You can scuff it down and paint any color you want.

I have new chrome 427 Pent Roof valve covers.

Polished/Ceramic Coated Edelbrock Vic Jr. Intake.
Polished Intake Breather/Vent.
Polished Edelbrock FE Water Pump.
Polished Edelbrock FE Fuel Pump.
Polished FE Timing Cover.
Polished Pulleys.
Polished/Ceramic Coated Cobra Air Breather
I may,.....Include The Barry Grant "Mighty Demon" 750 cfm Carb.

The engine is very strong running and is great on the street, highway & racing, yet gets 16 mpg highway. Never gets hot. The cam is lumpy, sounds great yet idles well. Chassis dyno tuned.

It has won 4- engine "Best Engine" Trophy's at big shows, not a small parking lot's.

SELL-$7,000 + shipping. Local pick-up also. The engine is in the car and running. I can take new video if needed. This is nearly a install & run package and priced very well.

I have a Tremec 3550 and clutch/flywheel, that could also go with the engine for a decent price. This would be a great combo if your building a cobra or up-grading.

Here's a link of last years \"Hot Rod Power Tour\" in Kansas. I was feeling ill so I had two of my buddies drive her home. If you have very good stereo speakers on your computer, crank it up.

Kevin,
What heads are you using?
Has the crankshaft been turned - if so, how much?
What is the bore diameter?
What is the compression ratio?

Hello Jody. Sorry for the late response, I'm not getting thread notices ?

The heads are iron. Magnafluxed, resurfaced, three angle valve job, harden seats, bronze guides, valves were custom ground. The flow numbers are better than the Edelbrocks but I don't recall the exact numbers. They were ported to the max, polished and port matched with the Vic. Jr. intake and gaskets.
The crank was magnafluxed, ground slightly at .0050, polished and balanced. The bores were magnafluxed and sonic tested before and after a over bore of .060. No cracks or weakened cylinders. Motor has about 4,000 miles and no problems at all. The compression is 10:3:1.
Leak down test showed all within .5% Hell, our sprint car was 1.2% lol.

The flywheel was balanced with the rotating assembly.

As you can see & hear, the engine sounds and performs great. I do have the dyno sheet if you're interested, just email me. I have two other parties interested. If I have no further contact's I will put it on ebay.

Price is between $6,000-$7,000 plus apx. 600-650 lbs. shipping.

This is one hell of a motor at a great price. I'm really giving the clutch, flywheel and Tremec away.

You may call me anytime.

Thanks,
Kevin

Sorry for the confusion. I did not realize which thread your transmission was on as it had been some time since it was active. The trans is the 3550 which is the model replaced by the TKO 500? Do you know what the HP torque rating of this trans is? I was hoping my 428 would put out more than 500 hp which may be a bit much for the 3550?

Thanks for the reply. I left you a message earlier today with my numbers on it.

Hey Kevin, yes, it's the 3550/500. I have a internet friend with a Superformance and the 3550 Tremec with a Roush engine with 620 HP, 580 TQ and has no problem. We discussed the transmission's and figured that the cobra is so light, compared to a 3,500 lb-4,000 lb. muscle car, that the 500 series is just fine. But, if you drag race you cobra,.... with slicks, the 600 would be the choice. (Actually, if drag raced, a automatic is the best choice)

I really can't sell my tranny until I sell the engine. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT OR I GO INTO WITHDRAWL.

I'm home today so, give me a call when you can. (I don't see your number in the PM) ?

Thanks,
Kevin

Very impressive resume, but I need the cash for the 427 aluminum side oiler I will be building.
I'll keep your talent in mind though.
